Let’s reinvent humanitarian action.
In 2025, the United States, without warning, cut aid to Africa and other vulnerable populations. This created an extreme crisis. As AIDS meds and treatments were suspended, as delivery of emergency food supplies were halted,, an estimated 750,000 Africans died, 500,000 of them children.
This year, U.S. Congress restored 84% of pre-DOGE funding, but there is no guarantee Trump will spend that aid. The EU has also reduced its commitment to funding humanitarian programs.
African nations must develop the ability to deliver sustainable health care to their people. Current interest payments on previous funding of aid are crippling their efforts. The answer lies in continued aid support from the global community, interest relief, investment in building medical infrastructure to serve often remote areas, and actions to address social issues such as gender violence, forced sex work and devastating poverty. The problems are complex and overwhelming.
We are seeking former UNAID and PEPFAR leaders, Pharma executives who have worked in programs serving Africa, policy makers, politicians and donors. We will connect people, highlight activities and new ideas that further the work of humanitarian aid.
We will also call out, when we think it is necessary, those countries and leaders who could be doing more.
We must keep the light on. We must find new ways to help the millions of children and families in need.
